a.     From the whole album, we cansee some tracks were pretty much classic “NEFFEX” while some were differentstyle from previous releases. What was your inspiration behind the new genre wehear from new album?

纵观整张专辑，我们发现有些曲目属于经典的“NEFFEX”风格，而另一些曲风多变，请问那些新的曲风背后的创作灵感是什么呢？

Well I’ve always kind of listened to a tonof different genres and styles of music and so that’s usually reflected in myproduction and writing as well. For the album we definitely wanted some classicNEFFEX songs but we also wanted to update our sound to be more polished andradio friendly. We were interested to see 1, if we could do it, and 2, if ourfans would enjoy it. We’re always experimenting and trying new things so wefelt an album was the perfect place to do that.

我们通常都会听不同风格的歌曲，听多了也会逐渐影响到我们的制作和词曲撰写。就新专辑而言，我们肯定是想要收录一些经典的”NEFFEX” 风格的曲目，但我们也想要尝试新的风格，从而来升级换代，让我们的歌曲听起来更加流行电台化一些。通常情况下，只要是我们力所能及的，也是我们的粉丝想要的，我们都会尝试。我们总是在实验各种不同的东西，所以我们觉得新专辑就是一个完美的“实验室”。

b.     In the opening track“Sometimes”, you mentioned in the lyrics “Sometimes when I’m high my mind is solow”, could you give us some concrete example of those highs and lows.

开篇曲目《Sometimes》，你们在歌词中提到“Sometimeswhen I’m high my mind is so low”，请问能给大家举一些你们人生起起伏伏的例子吗？

Highs and lows are an interesting concept.When you’re “peaking” as I like to call it, meaning everything’s going rightand you’re really “high” there’s always that fear that because everything is soperfect eventually there’s going to be a crash. The song is essentially just ametaphor for life and how there are ups and downs no matter who you are andit’s much easier to get through it if you are aware of this. You wouldn’t havethose epic highs without those brutal lows.

“起起伏伏”是一个有趣的概念。当你到达人生巅峰的时候，就意味着所有事物都往正确的方向发展，你也很开心。但同时，你也会有隐隐担心，因为一切都过于完美，最终总会走下坡路的。这首歌实际上就是一个隐喻，比喻无论你是谁，人生总会遇到那些起起伏伏，如果你能意识到这一点，总是能更轻松度过难关的。如果没有那些大悲，总是不会有大喜的。

c.     What made you decide to workwith “ROZES” as the featuring artist for “Be Somebody”?

是什么原因让你们在《Be Somebody》中与ROZES合作的呢？

ROZES is the sister of a good friend ofmine Pat Mencel and after working with him on the song Space, he and I starteddiscussing how she could possibly fit on the album as well. So I always hadthat in the back of my head while working on new music. After making BeSomebody, I wasn’t a huge fan of the 2nd verse I had written and she poppedinto my head and just seemed like the perfect. So we reached out, she loved thetrack, and the rest was history. She killed it on her first try.

d.     In the title track “NewBeginnings” , it sounds pretty much evolved, could you please explain to uswhat’s new in terms of production?

专辑同名曲目《New Beginnings》听上去有所突破，请问在制作上你们有什么创新吗？

It may sound weird but what’s new in myhead at least is it’s simpler. A lot of classic NEFFEX music was very complex,big sounding songs with dramatic drops and long time stamps. New beginnings isa simplistic flowing song that you could play in the background of a shoppingmall or blast in a club and it would work in both settings. So the productionwas simpler and more clean, fewer elements, but each instrument played animportant role in the overall sound.

这听上去或许很奇怪，但在我们脑海中呈现的反倒是更简单的东西。很多经典“NEFFEX”的歌曲很复杂：采用了很多夸张的Drop和长时间的踩踏乐器。《New Beginnings》是极简主义的体现，你可以作为商场的背景音乐播放，或者在夜店里引燃全场，在以上场合都很适合。所以从制作上来说很更简单，更干净利落。尽管元素变少了，但每个乐器的采用都扮演着极其重要的角色。

e.     “Scars” seems to be a sad song,we’re curious about the story behind it.

《Scars》这首歌听起来很悲伤，我们很好奇它背后的故事。

Scars is the story of a girl in search of away to forgive and forget her past through a new relationship, someone shetruly thinks can help her move forward. That’s pretty much all I wanna say aboutthat song haha.

《Scars》是个女孩原谅和忘记过去，开启一段崭新恋情的一段旅程。只有在邂逅到新人后才能帮助她告别伤心往事。这大概就是我想通过这首歌讲的故事吧，哈哈！

f.      Have you guys met someone thatyou are truly enchanted with just like the song “I’ve Been Let Down” mentioned?

你们遇到过如同歌曲《I’ve Been Let Down》中提到的真心迷恋的另一半吗？

Yes actually haha. And it takes a long timebut it’s worth it when it finally happens.

确实有过，花了些功夫，但当真爱来临时，你会发现真的很值得。

g.     Compared to other tracks, “HellWon’t Take Me” is less mainstream pop but more indie and dark, especially the“Woooh-wooh” background layer, could you please tell us who contribute to itand how did you come up with this genius idea of adding cherry on the top?

和其他曲目相比，《HellWon’t Take Me》没有那么主流，听起来更加黑暗和另类，特别是背景声音的“Woooh-wooh”，你们可以告诉大家是谁的声音吗？你们是怎样想到这个主意锦上添花的？

Yea so I worked on this track with JoshZegan and Jonathan Thulin and they were both incredible to work with. Josh hadthis amazing production and Jonathan and I immediately started riffing melodiesand lyrics over it. I do remember the moment where I started making the“Wooh-wooh” sound in the hook and Jonathan loved it but flipped the melody alittle to make it even better. But yea it’s those little cherries on top thatare everything.

h.     “I Wanna Play a Game” is thelast single before the album release, why do you wanna release it as a single?

We felt that I wanna play a game had a lotof classic NEFFEX undertones to it and therefore after all the pop leaningsingles we wanted to make sure the classic NEFFEX listeners knew we were stillhere.

我们觉得《I Wanna Play a Game》有很多经典“NEFFEX”的元素，所以在所有的流行向单曲发行后，我们想让那些NEFFEX的死忠粉知道原来的那个NEFFEX还在呢。

i.       My question is about “MindReader”, you released the music video recently, is there anything fun to sharewith us when filming.

我的问题是关于《Mind Reader》的，你们刚发行了这首歌MV，在拍摄过程中遇到了什么趣事吗？

That was actually an insane video shoot. Ittook place over 2 different nights and the first night we were shooting at ahigh school and at like 1 or 2am in the morning the school was swarmed bysomething like 17 cop cars and a police helicopter was shining it’s lights downat us. Apparently they either thought we were a small scale riot because of allthe people or they thought we had broken in lol. So we had to move the rest ofshooting to another night. It all worked out in the end and the video came outsick. Chillin on set with masn was a ton of fun too.

拍摄过程其实挺疯狂的。2晚时间，头一晚我们在高中拍摄，凌晨1-2点的时候，校园被17辆左右的警车包围了，直升机腾空飞行，打光到了我们身上。显而易见，他们以为我们是暴乱分子，想要去校园盗窃。（笑）所以我们不得不将拍摄计划放置到第二晚，还好最终成型了，整支MV超赞的。

j.       Is there any connection betweenthe track “Worst of You” and “Best of Me”?

《Worst of You》和《Bestof Me》这两首歌有什么关系呢？

No haha no correlation. Honestly we’ve justmade so many songs they’re bound to have similar names at some point haha. Wethought it was a funny coincidence as well.

没关系，哈哈，说实话，我们趋向于给创作出的歌曲相似的歌名，哈哈，我们觉得会是个有趣的巧合吧！

k.     Why did you decide not toinclude “I’m Not Worth It” in the new album?

为什么你们决定不把《I’m Not Worth It》放入专辑收录呢？

We just felt like I’m not worth it was agreat single and didn’t need to be on the album. The album was already 16 songsdeep and told its own story. It would feel like we just threw I’m not worth iton there to put it on and we didn’t want to do that.

我们觉得尽管《I’m NotWorth It》是首好歌，但未必要收录入专辑中。专辑里已经有16首曲目了，已经将它的故事讲完了，如果再加上《I’m Not Worth It》会有些多此一举。
